Does an Actor need an Agent?

Starting in a unique field like preforming arts, including becoming a New York actor, it can be difficult to know what information is accurate and how to get started in such a competitive field.

Latitude Talent Studios is lucky to meet with new actors almost daily to help steer them in the right direction. Like Models, there is much out dated advice that is on the internet. Many actors think that the only way to become a success is to land a talent agency.

Regardless of your look, a talent agency doesn’t sign an actor because they are charming or even because they are a superb entertainer; an actor gets signed to a talent agency because the agent knows they will make money off of the actor from bookings.

Unless you are a published actor, don’t expect to get signed right away. Landing acting auditions is the first thing an actor will want to see on your resume.

Finding auditions, especially in New York City, can be done with out the help of an agency.

Latitude Talent helps connect Models and actors with the tools, resources and opportunities to help talent, regardless of their experience level get exposure.

Are Professional Head Shots or Comp Cards needed for an Actor or Model?

A lot of models and actors want to know is it worth spending the money on good headshot’s or on a portfolio?

If you ask any talent agency or casting professional they will tell you, professional photos make all the difference when it comes to selecting talent. It’s important to put yourself in the position of a casting director. If you were reviewing talent based on a submission for a job, what would most likely meet your eye?

An average job in New York receives hundreds, if not thousands of active participants that have submitted over their headshot in consideration for casting project. It’s very easy to tell from talent who are established from a newer talent that has never booked anything, just based on the information they have submitted as well as their headshot.

While some casting clients may seek fresh face talent that have no prior experience, many acting clients tend to go for actors that have more experience under their belt. Spending a couple hundred dollars on head shots can make all the difference.

For models, especially in a New York market, photography can be pricey. Most agencies will cover the cost of test shoots to start, however a model that is brand new to the industry should always expect to cover the cost of their own portfolio, headshot and comp cards when getting started model that is brand-new to the industry should always expect to cover the cost of their own portfolio, headshot and comp cards when getting started.
