It’s affordable

Models/Actors are independent contractor. That means you do not get a paycheck weekly to complete your job. Models and actors are freelancers, that means that if or when you get a job it’s typically on your own terms and only one project, one time. Many people nowadays are freelancing and replace a full-time jobs because it allows them the opportunities to be able to do things and choose your own schedule.

Freelancing as a model means that you’re an independent contractor and all of the expenses that you incur are yours. So yes, you always cover your own stuff as a model or actor. There are so many people that spend thousands on schools, training and photography, you really should know why and why you’re spending on. Whether you’re a talent member with Latitude online or a talent studio in New York or Miami, everything is extremely affordable as a part of the service. Why? Because talent come first.

How to Attend a Model Open Call

Attending an open call as a new or established model is the first step to be seen by a modeling scout. Here are 3 best tips to stand out.

Open Call Modeling – Tips to Start

If you ask anybody if they would like to be a “rich and successful model or actor” 99% of the people would say, hell yes! The problem is that 99% of people do not want to put any work or effort into perfecting their craft. Sadly many models and actors have no idea what it takes to become successful.

Tip 1: Come Prepared

Attending a meeting with a modeling agent, model management company or platform requires you to do your homework prior to attending. Modeling safety is important, as is know what you are getting yourself in to and if the company is a good fit for what you are seeking.

Tip 2: Act Professional

If you were invited in to meet with a modeling agency or even attend a public open call, the most basic step is acting professional when you arrive. No one will be impressed with the fact that you’re wearing sunglasses or listening to music or talking on the phone. It shows that not only are you not serious, you are not professional. First impressions are very important. If you are an established model or have some projects under your belt, it is best to present that at an audition. Composite cards and Headshots are always required, however for a new model they do not need them just yet. If you have those materials already always attend an open casting with those.

Tip 3: Be Realistic

Almost no one walks in to a meeting with an agent or model scout gushing over how beautiful and fabulous the actor or model is. Many times people are unrealistic in their approach and think that because they want to become a model or actor that an agent is going to do all the work for them. This is simply not the case. If you are not fully prepared to become a model or actor then this business is not for you! Even if you are signed to an agency, you have to be realistic. No one can promise or guarantee jobs. That is ultimately the clients decision. Anyone that promises you any type of success or guarantees is not being honest with you!

If you are ready to take the first step as a model, there are many outlets for you to turn into to become a model or actor. Latitude Talent is a platform that works with models and actors of all backgrounds.

Permission NOT Granted – Here’s Why Kayne West Is Proof you Don’t Need a Label or Agency

You don’t need an agent to become success full!

Kanye West, the multi platinum selling artist dropped his long-awaited album Donda, which was a dedication to his late mother. Donda is the 10th major album by the American rapper and producer. The album was released on August 29, 2021, through GOOD Music, and was distributed by Def Jam Recordings. The album is named after West’s late mother, Donda West.

Media reports that his label, Universal records, prevented the artist from releasing his album. In fact, after many set dates, it was delayed with unexpected reasons.

What does that have to do for models and actors? While it was long believe that having a major machine backing like a music label or modeling agency was required for you to become successful, in 2022 and beyond it is no longer needed to get exposure.

“At Latitude Talent we see many inspiring musicians, as well as models that are looking to get started. Just getting exposure online can do more for you than a major agent label.”

Don’t let anything, or anyone get in the way of you being successful. If you’re seeking to be a model, actor or even a musician, create your content and distribute it to people that want to see it. Instagram, Twitter, Reddit, Tumblr and more are some the few. While many family members are usually not the most supportive at first, discover a new audience and bring positivity to your brand. “Spread Love” is always the motto.

Modeling in New York – The truth about getting scouted

If you’re like many, the dream of getting started as a model seems like a fantasy. For most, it is. That’s where the dream stops. Why is that? Because getting started as a model especially in a major market like New York City is very, very difficult.

Besides the fact that it’s a lot of hard work, it does take a little bit of luck in getting right in front of the right people. This guide will tell you what experience you should expect as an aspiring model getting started.

No one is going to help you if you don’t help yourself.

That’s right, just because you want to be a model doesn’t mean that an agency or modeling scout is going to go out of their way to help you. Like any career changing opportunity, you have to make sure that you are invested in the right materials and education on getting started. Many models make the assumption that walking into an agency and getting signed it as easy as that. That is completely wrong.

Modeling agencies, which are referred to as model management companies in New York City, manage the career of existing models. Now that doesn’t mean that because your new model you won’t get signed an agency. Of course you can, it happens all the time. Just like winning the lottery happens.

Many models that don’t meet the strict requirements of editorial agencies, which are really tall and really thin, are referred to as commercial print models. Getting started as a commercial print model is similar to acting. You have to build up your portfolio however. The truth is you can build up your portfolio working with local photographers in your market. If you are located in or around New York, and wanna get signed to a New York agency, you need to work with a New York photographer. Taking photos of yourself or having a friend or family member take pictures is not professional. While it may help you build your experience in front of the camera, an agency wants to make sure that you have the actual look before they going to sign you.

Spending tens of thousands of dollars on photographs will get you nowhere. There are many scouts that claim to help you by simply getting you on the photo shoots, that will help build up your buck but it won’t help you get in front of castings. The truth is you’ll know whether or not you’ll become a successful model if you can land casting calls.

Covid has changed the way how agency scout. Before Covid some agencies will have open casting calls, typically on Tuesdays or Wednesdays in New York. Since Cove it happens many agencies are not opening the doors to the public. They may require you to come in for a personal evaluation or they might scout you online.

As a new model, it’s important to make sure that you’re getting the best help possible. Who do you know you can trust? How do you know a company is legit? You have to make sure you do your homework and read real reviews from actual talent, not reviews from people that want to get signed an agency or have been declined from an agency, it happens all the time.

There are many services and websites that can help connect to free casting calls. However you should always expect to subscribe to casting call websites. Some are more expensive than others.

Getting the help of a professional, like Latitude Talent Studios, can help get you the materials you need to get the exposure when you need it. To learn more about Latitude and read Latitude Talent reviews visit the official website and follow Latitude Talent on Instagram.

Should you pay a modeling agency?

Should you pay a modeling agency? What should you do if a modeling agency wants you to pay them? Is it normal to be required to pay a fee to join them? There is such a hype and misconception on who pays for what when a beginner model gets signed. This is the real truth no one will tell you.
Back in the 1980’s a model could be expected to earn hundreds of thousands of dollars for bookings. Major agencies like Ford Models were at the for front, discovering models in malls and subways. Back then, it was normal for the agency to pay to develop the model starting out, in hopes of earning it back when they book something.
Fast forward to 2021 – NO modeling agency is going to pay for your portfolio! Period. Like another career, you have to have actual experience in front of the camera. Regardless of what you heard online, any real model signed with an agency will tell you they all charge hundreds of dollars on website fee’s and marketing. If you are signed exclusively with a big agency, some of these costs may be fronted to you however, this is rare and only reserved for editorial models.
Have you applied to agencies and not heard back? Well the truth is model managers manage the careers of established talent, they do not help you start or grow.

What is a Digital Comp Card for Models?

What is a Comp Card? We’ll at one time it was a mandatory expense models had to cover; “update your comp card yearly” agents used to say. Comp cards used to be costly, something like $2.25 per print. By the time your agent was done sending them out, the model or actor would look different and have to get all new ones made up.

Now, in 2020 like most things, comp cards are now digital and are used for models and actors to showcase their headshots and stats in a clear, clean and simple form used to submit to casting agents to land castings call and auditions.

The benefit of digital comp cards is they can be edited in no time, making sure they are accurate and up-to-date can help you land that role or gig.
